We’ve been living in our RV for just over 3 months. It’s been wonderful, except for the lack of good internet signal and live TV. These are the things that we took for granted in our sticks n’ bricks. It was just part of life. You buy a house, you sign up for cable and internet. (Almost) Every house has it, it’s just a way of life.

As an RV’er, it’s a bit different. Some Campgrounds have cable and Wi-Fi and some do not. As a result, it falls on the sholder’s of the camper to determine their needs and wants and act accordingly.

We moved to the campground with just phone service. Turtle Kraal RV Park has WiFi, but even on a great day the WiFi is limited. The park does not have cable. Since this our summer home we needed to come up with our own solution to the “no internet / no TV’ delimna.

We started with a T-Moble hot spot. It was $99 for the box and the $50 per month for the service. We also purchased RoKu a box that connects to the TV so you can stream channels. (Peacock, Netflix, Hulu, etc..) The Roku box was $29.00 at Walmart.

This combination was just OK. There were days when the T-Mobile hot spot box would work so that I could do some internet work, but the signal wasn’t strong enough for the TV. Then the opposite would happen. For me this was somewhat stressful as I was never sure what I would be able to get done. I didn’t like that at all.

Then StarLink Arrived!

Set-up for this was pretty easy. We set the dish outside of the RV, fed the cable through the corner of one of the slides, plugged it into the box and Voila…Internet!

Ok. So not quite that easy. There was an app we had to downloaded to get the unit up and running. We also had to do some trouble shooting.

Our issue: Our Starlink remained “offline”. We unplugged, rebooted, made sure wires weren’t kinked or twisted and waited 12 hours for something to happen. After no success we searched online for other suggestions and were instructed to make sure the cable into the dish was secure. (It is attached to the cable but can loosen during shipping.) Amazing enough this was the issue and now we are all set. (Happy Dance Here!!)

I tell you this story because I feel like I have been liberated. I can finally work on this blog whenever I feel like it and not crawl through my tasks at a snail’s pace due to low speeds.

While Starlink is a bit pricey ($649.00 for the hardware and $135.00 monthly) I am satisfied with the result. We have fast internet, we can stream TV, and this winter while we are in Florida, I will be able to pick up a work-at-home accounting gig without worrying about my access to the World Wide Web.

528 Meadow Pond Rd, Gilmanton, NH 03237 / (603) 267-8251

Website: Gilmanton Winery

We recently spent a rainy afternoon visiting this wonderful Winery located about 1/2 hour from the Campground. (Scroll down to read more…)

We were greeted almost instantly by our hostess and server Diane. She was pleasant, kind, and had a great story to share regarding her employment at the Winery. Short version: She waited 7 years for a position at the winery. She lives close by and had spent quite a bit of time there over the years. She repeatedly asked if there were any job openings. Finally, after 7 years it came. She has been there ever since and couldn’t be happier!

We were seated in one of the many cozy rooms and shown the wine list. We each choose 6 with an accompaniment of cheese and crackers. Selections included: “Girls Night Out”, “Blueberry Suprise”, “Green Apple Riesling”, “Malbec” “Cran Has the Blues” and many others. I’m not sure what I enjoy more… the wines or the presentation.

Each of our Wine Tastings were brought to us on the personalized board, with 6 sipping glasses of various size and design. It was magical. (I regret not getting a picture of the glasses.)

After our tasting we enjoyed a glass of our favorites and chatted a bit with the owner, Sunny. She and her husband had moved in around 2008. They started the business around 2011. Both were busy that day getting ready for a “Murder Mystery” event that they were hosting the following day. She shared a bit of history of the house and the various events that they have at the house. She invited us to walk the grounds and enjoy ourselves. Her husband was up at the barn if we wanted to visit.

Outside the rain had stopped so we wandered the property. We saw their covered bridge, vineyards, and made our way to the barn passing several goats, turkeys, and other animals.

Marshall and his helper were hard at work but greeted us warmly and was happy to tell us about the preparations for the event the following day. They would have a “Speakeasy” scene set up by the end of the day.

The Gilmanton Winery and Vineyard should be added to your places to visit. It’s a beautiful establishment with rich history, friendly hosts and a superb selection of wines to taste. We left with a bottle of the “Green Apple Riesling”. Perfect sipping for a sunny summer afternoon. And we will be returning to partake in their Sunday Brunch. (Be sure to make reservations)

It’s been a long time coming too.

Last October when we picked her up, we had to take her directly to storage. No time for lollygagging around or enjoying her. The campgrounds were closed, we were still both working and letting her sit in our driveway for any period of time was just not an option.

So, to say the least, this was a very special day.

And so lucky we were too. Everything happened perfectly, we couldn’t have asked for better.

We arrived at Vault Storage in Belmont, NH just before 9:00am with enough time for Russ to attach the plates just before management showed up.

After paperwork with management and a couple of pictures we hitched up Jenny (the jeep) with no issues and were driving out of the parking lot shortly after 9:20.

Despite some gusts, the weather was perfect. Bright and sunny with perfect temperatures, so the drive from Belmont to Rochester was most enjoyable.

The Beast now sits at Rochester Truck for some light maintenance and state inspection. We hope to get her back on Friday and have her home for the weekend. We will do a thorough cleaning and begin to load the underbelly.

After a trip to the eye doctor today, (Russ will be having Cataract Surgery soon), we decided to stop for a treat at one of our favorite farms in the area, Emery Farm.

Located on Route 4 just east of Durham, NH this farm has been around forever!

Today it hosts a great little country store and eatery.

In the country store, most of the products are sourced from New England, giving every visitor the opportunity to surely find something they desire.

The cafe offerings are delicious. Bagels, Sandwiches, Coffee and Bakery items are all on the menu. My husband loves the homemade Chicken Noodle Soup.

Today we picked up a few treats. Not needed of course but wanted. We also got an excellent cup of their coffee. YUMMY!

Never a disappointment, this farm is a must visit if you are in the area. Be sure to stop by and visit the animals before you leave!

Welcome to our blog. We are excited to have you!

This blog will contain stories of our adventures as we set out to travel Full-Time in our RV.

This will be our home. She is a 2013 Fleetwood Discovery 40X. We purchased her in October of 2021 and immediately took her to storage. On April 20th she will come out of storage. We can hardly wait!

This picture above is from October. The day we dropped her off.

The decision to go Full-Time has been on our minds for several years. We are grateful we are able to make this dream a reality.

We hope you will follow along with us as we take this incredible journey. There is so much to see and do in this great country and we are excited to share our adventures.
