We recently spent a rainy afternoon visiting this wonderful Winery located about 1/2 hour from the Campground. (Scroll down to read more…)

We were greeted almost instantly by our hostess and server Diane. She was pleasant, kind, and had a great story to share regarding her employment at the Winery. Short version: She waited 7 years for a position at the winery. She lives close by and had spent quite a bit of time there over the years. She repeatedly asked if there were any job openings. Finally, after 7 years it came. She has been there ever since and couldn’t be happier!

We were seated in one of the many cozy rooms and shown the wine list. We each choose 6 with an accompaniment of cheese and crackers. Selections included: “Girls Night Out”, “Blueberry Suprise”, “Green Apple Riesling”, “Malbec” “Cran Has the Blues” and many others. I’m not sure what I enjoy more… the wines or the presentation.

Each of our Wine Tastings were brought to us on the personalized board, with 6 sipping glasses of various size and design. It was magical. (I regret not getting a picture of the glasses.)

After our tasting we enjoyed a glass of our favorites and chatted a bit with the owner, Sunny. She and her husband had moved in around 2008. They started the business around 2011. Both were busy that day getting ready for a “Murder Mystery” event that they were hosting the following day. She shared a bit of history of the house and the various events that they have at the house. She invited us to walk the grounds and enjoy ourselves. Her husband was up at the barn if we wanted to visit.

Outside the rain had stopped so we wandered the property. We saw their covered bridge, vineyards, and made our way to the barn passing several goats, turkeys, and other animals.

Marshall and his helper were hard at work but greeted us warmly and was happy to tell us about the preparations for the event the following day. They would have a “Speakeasy” scene set up by the end of the day.

The Gilmanton Winery and Vineyard should be added to your places to visit. It’s a beautiful establishment with rich history, friendly hosts and a superb selection of wines to taste. We left with a bottle of the “Green Apple Riesling”. Perfect sipping for a sunny summer afternoon. And we will be returning to partake in their Sunday Brunch. (Be sure to make reservations)
